In 1050 of the Third Age, a shadow fell upon Greenwood the Great, transforming it into Mirkwood. At its heart stood Dol Guldur, the Hill of Sorcery, where a mysterious Necromancer—eventually revealed as Sauron himself—rebuilt his power for nine centuries.
